City Council approved a couple of changes to North Bay Transit this week.

A $200,000 contract has been awarded to Seon Design to install a video surveillance system in all 21 buses.

Manager Remi Renaud says there wasn’t 1 incident that made them do this it just made a lot of sense.

“It’s something that we’ve been looking at for quite some time now. A lot of transit properties have cameras on their buses now. It’s for the protection of the operator and our passengers,” He says.

Renaud expects the buses to be video equipped by the end of the year.

Meantime, he says a $2.6 million contract has been signed with Voyago for Para Bus services.

He hopes its operational next month.

Renaud doesn’t anticipate any major changes to what’s available now.

“There’ll be no changes. The passengers might see a new face, but no change in the service. That was important to us because this is a service our passengers rely on,” he says.
