The death of a 28 year old man in Nipissing District this past weekend is being investigated by the province’s Special Investigations Unit.

The SIU says preliminary information suggests a man called 911 shortly after noon on Sunday to report his friend had fallen while hiking in the Jocko River area and was in need of medical attention.

Officials say a North Bay OPP officer was the first responder, who started first aid on the man.

EMS and fire arrived shortly after and took over care of the man, who was declared deceased at the scene a short time later.

Two SIU investigators have been assigned to the incident.
