The Near North District School Board confirms the closure of Widdifield is being delayed by at least a year.

In a release, the board says the timeframe is contingent on Ministry timelines and requirements when it comes to funding opportunities.

It goes on to say the board intended to apply for funding to have the closure and transition of students to Chippewa and West Ferris completed by September 2019, but funding and requirements have not yet been confirmed by the province.

That means the impending closure will not proceed as originally scheduled, although it is still the board’s intention to move ahead with the closure.

The release says the board’s focus remains on the students and ensuring that the appropriate facilities and resources are in place to ensure programming requirements can be met.
