Ontario’s Finance Minister is reacting to the new United States Mexico Canada Agreement that was reached late Sunday.

At Queen’s Park, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli said they’re pleased an agreement in principle has been reached.

“It’s critical to hundreds of thousands of jobs in Ontario,” he told the Legislature.

However, Fedeli also says they’re also meeting with the various industries like the aluminum, steel, auto and agriculture sectors to determine the impact.

“We are calling for assurances from the Federal Government that any sectors in the province that are negatively affected by Federal negotiating decisions will be provided financial assistance and transitional support,” he says. “We need that to protect our economy.”

Premier Doug Ford says he’s worried farmers were ``thrown under the bus” by the federal government.

The deal gave up some access to Canada’s dairy, egg and poultry industries.

Ford emphasized the need for the agricultural sector to be compensated and his economic development minister expressed frustration the federal government hadn’t provided more details on the issue.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland says farmers who are adversely affected by greater U-S access to Canada’s tightly-regulated market will be fairly compensated, although details are still being worked out.
