A six figure loss at this year’s Summer In The Park.

That’s what the chair of Community Services Mark King said at a public meeting Tuesday night.

The issue came up during the mayoral candidates debate hosted by the Near North Landlords Association.

One resident wanted to know why the information hasn’t been released so close to an election.

King says the city has applied for grants to soften the blow of the financial loss from the event.

He says the public is justified in wanting to know the bottom line.

“We want to talk about all the positive things going on. This isn’t what I would consider a positive thing. The volunteers tried something different this time around and unfortunately it didn’t work,” he says.

King says staff have applied for grants to soften the blow.

“They wanted to make absolutely certain that they knew how much money was actually coming in before they indicated any numbers at all,” he says. “I was told to be prepared for a six figure loss, I fully expect it to be over $100,000.”
