24 temporary layoff notices have been issued at Ontario Northland in North Bay.

In a statement, Dennis Higgs, VP of Rail Mechanical and Remanufacturing says it’s due to a reduction in work at their Remanufacturing and Repair Centre.

“Due to a reduction in work in our Remanufacturing and Repair Centre, 24 temporary layoff notices have been issued in North Bay. This is necessary as Ontario Northland must balance the number of jobs with operational requirements. Since changing our business model in 2015 to expand our capabilities, the Remanufacturing and Repair Centre serves many customers in the railway industry and has added over 100 jobs, increasing the number employees in North Bay to 450. I am confident that we will fill this gap with more locomotive, passenger, freight and tank car repair work and call back these employees.”
