With a handful of cases in Ontario already, flu season is here.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reminding people they can now get their flu shot.

“Getting a flu shot is the number one defence against getting the flu,” says Public Health Nurse Jessica Taus. “It also helps to protect the people around us, especially the young, the elderly and people with underlying health conditions.”

She says a number of pharmacies offer the flu shot while the Health Unit is hosting a variety of clinics too, including one at their 345 Oak Street West location in North Bay.

“We have a clinic running this Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm. You can call to book an appointment or we also do walk-ins,” she says.

Taus also offers up other tips to stay healthy.

“Other things that you can do to help prevent the flu: wash your hands frequently, stay at home when your sick and cough into your sleeve or in a Kleenex,” she says.
