An event that draws thousands of people to Main Street in North Bay is back for a 30th year.

Downtown North Bay’s Old Fashioned Christmas Walk begins at 6 pm with the tree lighting at the corner of Main and Fraser.

DIA Executive Director Jeff Serran says it’s an event everyone looks forward to.

“It can’t be a better time with the snow the way it is, it’s truly going to be a great Christmas and holiday season event, and it is the kick-off to the season for not just our merchants but all of the different types of businesses in the downtown core,” he says.

Serran says activities tonight include wagon and North Bay Hydro bucket rides, the Cheapskates Rail Jam, there’s plenty of music and festive cheer, but that’s not all.

“Scheduled for around 8:30 pm is fireworks,” he says. “In the back field behind the museum, so people will be able to watch them from Main, from Oak street, there’s the lot between Guardian Drugs and our office building at 133 Main, there’s going to be a lot of great viewing areas.”

Also tonight the North Bay Professional Firefighters and the CIBC Run for the Cure are hosting the 2018 chili competition at the Main Street CIBC branch, during the Christmas Walk.

Eight restaurants are entered.

Tickets are $5 with proceeds going to cancer research.
