Highway 69 at the Key River Bridge is back open after a crash and chemical spill closed the roadway around 6 am Thursday.

North Bay Fire’s hazardous materials team was dispatched to assist with the spill.

Meantime, OPP say one responding police officer was exposed to a potentially hazardous chemical and was taken to hospital for precautionary medical assessment.

A second officer, conducting traffic control on Highway 400 near Parry Sound, was in her cruiser when it was hit by another vehicle.

She suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The highway was back open at 2:30 am Friday.

North Bay fire crews have been called in by the province to help out after a tractor trailer collision and hazardous material release closed on Hwy 69 at the Key River Bridge.

Chief Jason Whiteley their Hazardous Material team is one of nine that provide service to the province where hazardous materials teams are not provided, available or if local resources are overwhelmed.

The crash happened around 6 am with OPP saying two tractor trailers are blocking the bridge.

There’s no word on what hazardous material is involved.

Also of note, the Near North District School Board advises Britt Public School is closed today because of the Hwy 69 closure.

All affected parents and students have been notified and the school is scheduled to re-open tomorrow (Friday, December 7, 2018).
