The Warming Centre in North Bay had an earlier start this winter, and they’ve been busy.

In fact, Executive Director Dennis Chippa tells BayToday the centre at 480 Fisher Street (orange door) has been packed.

“A combination of people on the cots to stay the night and just people coming in. The drop-ins have been way higher then we’ve had in the past,” he says.

Chippa believes there’s a number of factors involved.

This vulnerable population is having trouble finding housing,” he says. “The second part is some of the folks that we’re seeing, I think, they’re transitioning into town.”

Chippa points out they’re now open on a consistent basis, instead of based on the weather.

As long as they have volunteers they’re open Monday through Sunday, from 6 pm to 8 am.
