North Bay Police report a 24 year old city man is facing 13 charges, including five each of domestic assault and assault with a weapon.

The investigation was started after police received information that a woman was seeking advice after a recently ended relationship, and was concerned about her safety.

Police say the investigation revealed she was assaulted several times over a six month period.

The man is also charged with mischief and uttering threats.

In a release, police say help is available for victims of domestic violence:

  • If you are a victim of domestic violence in an emergency situation and require immediate help, call 911.
  • If you would like to talk to someone about your domestic situation but do not feel ready to talk to police, Victim Services of Nipissing District can provide you with emotional and practical support, free of charge.
