A large part of the city is dealing with low water pressure and could be for a while.

This as city public works crews deal with a 16 inch water main break in the Stanley Street area, near Lee Park.

Officials say impacted areas include Pinewood, the centre core of the city and West Ferris area.

They say water pressure could be impacted for an extended period of time until the water main can be valved and isolated for repair.

On top of that, water from the 16 inch main is flowing into Chippewa Creek and out to Lake Nipissing, which may weaken the ice in that area.

Snowmobilers are asked to use caution in and around the outflow of Chippewa Creek.

The city says the Lee Park Sliding Hill is closed because of the water main break at Stanley Street.

A temporary service road has been opened to allow vehicles into the area to repair the water main.

Officials with Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services say the sliding hill will re-open when the water main has been repaired.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority says the Oak St Pedestrian Tunnel is closed indefinitely to everyone because of the watermain break near Stanley Street.

Officials say pedestrians can use the walkway beside the North Bay Museum or use the overpass to access Memorial drive and The Kate Pace Way.
