There’s no shortage of activities and events lined up for tomorrow’s Powassan Maple Syrup Festival.

There’s everything from pancake breakfasts, to lumberjack and puppet shows, sheep sheering, cooking and Lego robotics demonstrations, vendors and syrup producers, free bus rides to the sugar bush and so much more.

Thousands of people converge on the town for the event each year.

Committee member Dave Matthews, from Matthews Maple Syrup, says the big draw is that the festival is free, but that’s not all.

“Most of us are tired of winter, I’m still looking out my window here looking at snow banks and snow on our yard, so everybody is ready to get out and enjoy a good day out,” he says.

The festival goes from 9 am to 4 pm, although the various pancake breakfasts all start at 7 am.

Matthews, meantime, says the syrup season is wrapping up.

“I think all of the producers have had an average season, it started off cold and snowy in March so not a lot of syrup was made. But, April has certainly made up for it,” he says.

Matthews expects they’ll be pulling their taps after the festival this weekend.
