The North Bay Battalion start another season against a familiar opponent this evening.

Divisional rival Barrie comes to Memorial Gardens tonight.

Assistant coach Adam Dennis says as the pre-season went along their defensive play got better and that’ll have to continue.

“The shots have gone down and we need to score a lot more. We have young defense and goaltending so there will be mistakes early on. We have to stay positive, correct them and make sure there’s improvements along the way,” Dennis says.

Late yesterday, the team named Brad Chenier as the captain and Matthew Struthers, Mason Primeau and Luke Moncada as alternates.

Dennis says they need production from everyone to be an effective team this year.

We have to be a hardworking team. Last year, we won games by powerplay, goaltending and Justin Brazeau. We have to work our butts off every night . We can’t be a team that has shifts and nights off,” he says.

Game tonight is 7 p.m. with coverage on Country 600 CKAT starting at 6:50 pm.
