North Bay Police Chief Scott Tod says he’s looking at November to have a new taxi bylaw in place for North Bay.

“It’s very important we complete this. But we also do it in a way that serves the safety of the public and provides companies a fair and competitive model to do business,” Tod says.

He says the North Bay by-law is quite unique compared to other municipal by-laws and those that are helping them put together the bylaw have never drafted some of the specific issues here including regulations for school purpose vehicles.

Tod says the bylaw must apply to everyone and safety is paramount.

Tod says there also will be a public consultation on the changes before there’s final approval.
