One of Canada’s largest medical services companies, which has a location on Algonquin Avenue, says it has taken steps to strengthen its cyber defences after one of their key servers was breached in October.

The personal information of up to 15 million Canadians was exposed, although the company says it hasn’t seen any public disclosure of customer data.

LifeLabs says it paid an undisclosed ransom to hackers to secure the data, which included health card numbers, names, email addresses, and dates of birth.

The CEO of LifeLabs says it has been advised by cyber security firms that the risk to customers from the data breach is low.
