Another round of funding from the North Bay and Area Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.

The Mattawa Food Bank and the West Nipissing Food Bank are each receiving $2,000, as both work to deal with increased need.

“This grant of $2000.00 will be applied directly as our cupboards are thin at the moment of canned non-perishable goods,” said Wayne Reid, President of the Mattawa Food Bank. “The impact is immediate as we prepare for another distribution day soon, for without sufficient cans we cannot pack a hamper which would seriously impact us. We expect an increase in clients anywhere from 25-50% in a town where we already service close to 20% of the population.”

Officials say the fund has already made a community impact of $11,500.

As it continues to grow it will allocate grants where the need is most pressing in our community.

The first round of funding saw $5,000 go the North Bay Food Bank and $2,500 to the Gathering Place.
