There are a million reasons to smile today for the North Bay Regional Health Centre’s Cancer Care Close to Home Campaign.

Hospital Foundation President and CEO Tammy Morison says they announced a major donation from Max and Lorraine Shaprio.

“They gave a leadership and transformational donation of a million dollars, and the Critical Care Unit at the hospital is now named the Max and Lorraine Shapiro Critical Care Unit,” she says.

Part of the campaign is funding needed medical equipment.

“The implementation of a second CT Scanner is really important to that, and it is transformational in the care, because we will be able to address wait times and also implement new screening processes for high risk populations around cancer and other illnesses,” Morison adds.

The goal of the campaign is to raise $6 million.

An event next week will reveal more about where they’re at with the campaign.
