schoolGood financial news for the Near North District School Board.

The audited statements for the 2014/15 school year reflect a surplus of over 560-thousand dollars.

Chair Dave Thompson says it’s because of the hard work of all of their staff, but they also saw an increase of 153 students which helped them.

He says  they’re seeing increases in other programs as well, including the International Baccalaureate program and with foreign students too.  In terms of where the extra money will go.

Thompson say it’ll be put into reserves in case it’s needed on an emergency basis in the future.

The overall budget at the Near North District School Board is 148-million dollars.

Meantime, it’s still early, but Thompson says unofficially enrollment is up this year too.
