2014 Summer in the Park chair John Strang presents to council following a presentation from 2013 chair Jake Lacourse.

There will be a number of changes coming to the 2016 Summer in the Park Festival.

Chair John Strang says there will be three nights of entertainment, with one night being a local and tribute band show, as well there is a plan to have more daytime programming.

Meantime, he says wristbands will start at $29.99.

Strang says even though council had previously committed $40,000 to the festival, they had to come back for extra funding.

Councilor Darryl Vaillancourt put an amendment forward to not only give the committee the extra $40,000 for 2016, but also a requested $80,000 for 2017 and 2018.

Vaillancourt says the focus shouldn’t be on the loss of money it should be on the event itself and this funding should give the committee some stability.

Chair of Community Services Mark King voted in favour of approving the extra funding, but after the meeting he says he wasn’t happy with the decision.

King says because it’s a three day event that allows them to apply for different funding from the provincial and federal government; although it isn’t indicated in their budget that they are banking on getting that extra funding.
