City Hall The city is looking at adding two positions to their city staff; a Communications Officer and a Mayoral Intern.

Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette says the city needs a Communications Officer as he says there have been communication problems in the past.

He says “I think some Councillors, including myself, relay the wrong numbers or the wrong information and a Communications Officer would help us stay on top of those things.” Mayor Al McDonald says he thinks this will be a great way to do a better job of keeping residents informed of issues at City Hall.

He says there are a couple of ways they could go about hiring a Communications Officer, but he says the most likely would be through movement within City Staff.

He says “my belief is we are going to cut a position somewhere else through attrition and replace it with this Communications Officer so there is no cost to the taxpayers.”

Meantime, the Mayors Intern spot would be to help with research and council preparation.

The cost would be $20,000 along with some funding from other levels of government. These two positions will be voted on through the budget process for 2016.
