West Ferris Secondary’s Mason McGriskin is heading to the 106th Grey Cup in Edmonton.

The local quarterback is one of 70 high school football athletes announced to the Nissan All-Canadian TITAN Team.

They’ll have the chance to play an exhibition game, a day before the Grey Cup Championship game.

McGriskin’s profile states he’s the definition of a leader in the community and on the field.

He also founded Rising Stars Football to offer skill development camps to youth.

A panel of celebrity judges, including CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie and HGTV’s Bryan Baeumler, chose the 70 athletes who were nominated by their peers, coaches, parents and friends.

Officials say the student-athletes demonstrate exemplary TITAN values, on and off the football field: toughness, innovation, tenacity, ambition and notability.

Nissan set out this year to reach every high school football athlete and community across Canada, to find the best and the brightest youth football players in the country. We believe that sport nurtures the development of outstanding TITAN values, so the Nissan Kickoff Project aims to reward and encourage those characteristics in young people,” said Steve Rhind, director of marketing, Nissan Canada Inc. “We hope the 70 players selected inspire a future generation of young athletes in grassroots football and we are thrilled to be hosting them at the 106th Grey Cup.”

By presenting the TITAN athletes alongside the best professional football players in Canada, Nissan hopes that the players selected will return to their communities as ambassadors for grassroots football in Canada and motivated to continue championing the TITAN values in their everyday lives.

Since the inception of the program five years ago, the Nissan Kickoff Project has benefitted 78 high schools from coast-to-coast, reaching more than 4,300 students.
