The North Bay Battalion will have no shortage of road games before the Christmas break.

Seven of their nine remaining games before the holidays will be away from Memorial Gardens, starting tonight (Thursday) in Peterborough.

So far this season, the Troops have fared well on the road with a 6-6 record.

Acting head coach Adam Dennis says teams tend to play a more simple game on the road and they’re no different, pointing out these are key games.

“They’re conference games and games leading up to the Christmas break. You want to go into the break feeling good and it’s important for our group to get on a little run before the break,” Dennis says.

The swing starts tonight in Peterborough, continues tomorrow in Kingston and wraps up Sunday in Ottawa.

The Troops are expected to have Matthew Struthers back in the lineup tonight.

Broadcast time on Country 600 is 7 pm.

Dennis was also asked for an update on the possibility of Luke Burghardt rejoining the team.

“He is cleared to play, so from our standpoint he’s a player that has missed all season so far. He’s a player that was told that he needed to retire from hockey. We need to get him in. We need to see where he’s at physically, game shape wise and mentally. Until we know where he’s at we can’t put a timeline on when he’s going to play,” he says.

The Troops are in 8th place in the Eastern Conference entering the weekend.

In the NOJHL, the Powassan Voodoos lost 4-1 in Kirkland Lake last night.

Both teams were tied with 37 points entering the game, with the Gold Miners taking over top spot in the East with the win.

But, that might change by Monday.

The two teams meet two more times in the next few days.

After a road game against French River tomorrow night, the Voodoos visit Kirkland Lake on Saturday and then host the Gold Miners on Monday.

The unbeaten streak continues for Canadore’s women’s volleyball team.

They’re now 7-0 on the season after a 3-0 road win over Georgian last night.

On the men’s side, Canadore lost 3-1 to Georgian.

In OCAA men’s basketball, the Panthers lost 98-90 to Algonquin.
