Big jump in employment in the area last month

Stats Canada reports employment was at 60.3 percent last month in the area.

That’s about 7 percent higher that August last year.

The labour force included over 4,000 more people year over year.

Meantime, unemployment saw a slight jump from 5.5 percent in August 2015 to 5.9 percent last month.

It’s within the standard error so it is not deemed statistically significant.

The stats include the City of North Bay, Callander, East Ferris and Bonfield.
