NEW opp policeQuite the situation for OPP late Monday night on Highway 11 in the Powassan area.

Provincial Police say just before 11:30 pm an officer spotted a vehicle travelling faster than the speed limit and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle did not stop.

In fact, it’s alleged the vehicle continued on and was actually being driven northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 11, at one point.

OPP says the vehicle got off the highway in Powassan with several OPP units then getting involved in the search, including the Emergency Response Team and canine unit.

Police say the driver was located and arrested around 8 am Tuesday.

The 49 year old man from the Peterborough area is facing six charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight while pursued by peace officer, driving under suspension and possession of cocaine.
