Meantime, the Canadore Panthers were playing hoops against Durham, and saw volleyball action against Loyalist. 

 

(Women’s Hockey)

In OUA women’s hockey – the Nipissing Lakers have posted back to back shutouts for the second time this season.

They defeated the Windsor Lancers 1-0 on home ice Saturday night, this after beating the Guelph Gryphons 1-0 on Friday, also at Memorial Gardens. Lexi Debol scored the winner for the Lakers in the third period and Jackie Rochefort made 19 saves between the pipes, for her fourth shutout of the year.

The Lakers are in second place in the OUA Women’s Conference standings with a 5-2-2 record, just one point behind Queens and one point ahead of Toronto.

Nipissing will have next weekend off, as they don’t hit the ice for game action again until Nov. 14 when they travel down the highway to face the Laurentian Voyageurs.

 

(Men’s Hockey)

In OUA men’s hockey – the Nipissing Lakers lost 5-1 to the Western Mustangs, their fourth straight loss.

The Mustangs led 3-0 after the first period, and added two more goals in the second. Domenic Graham played the first two periods in net for Nipissing, while Kirk Rafuse finished the game off in the third period.

There were a couple of local connections to this game.

Mustangs Goaltender Gregg Dodds got the win in his former home rink at Memorial Gardens. Dodds suited up for the North Bay Junior A Trappers in 2012-2013, leading the Trappers to an appearance in the Dudley Hewitt Cup that season.

Meantime, former North Bay Battalion Forward Ray Huether dressed for the Mustangs as well, and had an assist in the win.

The Lakers head to Thunderbay for a pair of games against Lakehead next weekend.

 

(Lakers Women’s Volleyball)

In OUA Volleyball action, the Nipissing Lakers women’s team fell 3-0 to the Ottawa Gee-Gee’s. Ottawa won their sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-23. Christina Caruso led the Lakers attack with seven kills, while Tracy Hammerton and Taylor Ley each had six for Nipissing.

The Lakers will look to get into the win column next weekend when they host the Queens Gaels and the RMC Paladins in North Bay, Friday and Saturday night.

 

(Canadore Basketball)

The Canadore Panthers improve to 2-1 on the year defeating the Durham Lords 81-53.

After trailing 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Panthers scored 30 points to finish the half up 43-34.

Canadore then outscored the Lords 20-6 in the third.

The Panthers were led offensively by Deysean Thompson-Evans’ 16 points, with Santo Dak adding 12 and Jerome Wynters picking up 10 points.

In OCAA volleyball action both the Canadore Panthers mens and womens team were winners against Loyalist.

The mens side won 3-1 while the womens side swept their game 3-0.

Both teams are back in action today as they host the Fleming Knights.
