A new organization dedicated to cleaning up the city kicks off this week.

Hariett Madigan is chair of North Bay Clean, Green and Beautiful.

The organization will present to council on Tuesday.

Madigan says making and keeping North Bay clean will do wonders for the look of the community, but also for its people.

“When you create a beautiful space crime rates go down and people feel more of a sense of belonging and more engaged. They feel everyone makes a difference,” she says.

The group has several goals this year.

“This year our main goal is to be litter free by the fall. That means litter free, offensive graffiti free and weeds on boulevards and sidewalks and curbs free,” Madigan says.

On Saturday, people will be invited to clean up their neighborhoods. She says garbage bags will be available at several locations.
