Lakeshore Community Safety Zone

North Bay Police are well into their Back To School Traffic enforcement initiative and yet we’re still seeing speeding in Community Safety Zones and motorists not stopping for flashing lights on school buses.

In fact, there were 14 reports of drivers not stopping for the flashing lights on school buses in just 2 days.

North Bay Police Chief Shawn Devine says the goal is not to hand out tickets, it’s too ensure that people can get to and from school safely.

He says drivers have to take responsibility for their actions, because driving is a privilege, not a right and it is a responsibility that must be taken seriously.

The stats have been piling up in Community Safety Zones, too.

In one day this week, 9 drivers were issued speeding tickets in the O’Brien Street Community Safety Zone while the amber lights were flashing and another 3 drivers given tickets in the Marshall Avenue Community Safety Zone.

Devine says they will be rolling out a traffic safety program later his month that will focus on education.

He says street racing is another concern.
