The city is set to celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday today (Monday).

Registration for the annual Canada Day Road Race will start at 8:30 am at the A.C.T Shelter.

Canada Day celebrations kick off at noon at the waterfront A-C-T shelter with the singing of O’Canada and the cake cutting.

The opening ceremonies also include the school-wide Canada Day Poster Challenge winner being announced.

The theme for the tenth annual poster challenge was “Canada Pride”.

After the opening ceremonies, the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre will host the 12th annual Multicultural Showcase, highlighting the diversity of North Bay through music, song, dance, and other artistic forms.

The North Bay Museum is offering free entry into their “Ablaze – Firefighting in North Bay” exhibit 10 am – 2 pm.

At Amelia soccer field there’s a cricket game at 1 pm.

The afternoon’s agenda of events include the Canada Day Kid Zone that has a wide range of supervised sporting activities for children and, of course, the Heritage Railway Train, carousel rides and face painting.

Food vendors will also be set up during the event.

There’s live music and entertainment form noon to 4:30 pm, with ROADHOUSE performing at the Kiwanis Band shell from 8:30 pm to 10 pm.

A Fireworks Finale will complete the celebration at about 10 pm.

 

Mattawa is also celebrating today with festivities to thank everyone who helped after the massive flooding this spring in the community.

Activities include live music, air bouncers, vendors, a FREE BBQ, Kid’s Fun Zone and more.

The fireworks go at dusk.

Everything is taking place at Explorer’s Point.
