City police Cst. Josh Buchholz writes out a ticket in the Community Safety Zone on O’Brien Street Friday morning.

The city police “Back To School” Traffic Enforcement Campaign may be over after today (Friday), but efforts will continue throughout the school year.

Police were set up in the Community Safety Zone on O’Brien Street watching for speeders.

There are signs posted with the 40 km/h speed limit along with flashing amber lights.

Constable Ken Ayres doesn’t believe they’ll ever get to zero charges, “people will continue to make these types of infractions, but it does frustrate me when I ask motorists that I have stopped for speeding, if in fact they have recognized the yellow lights and I can suggest that at least half are saying they don’t even see the yellow light.”

“People need to be aware of their surroundings while operating a motor vehicle,” he said.

On top of slowing down in Community Safety Zones, drivers need to stop for the flashing lights on school buses too.

Ayres says police officers will often pick up on school bus routes while on patrol.
