The local Home Depot location in North Bay and the Nipissing Naturalists Club are joining forces to save the lives of bats.

They’re encouraging you to bring a screw driver to Home Depot on Saturday from 10-1 and you’ll get help in building a bat house.

Fred Pinto the president of the club says many bat species are declining because they are dying of White Nose Syndrome and the effort here is part of a larger campaign across North America.

Pinto says Bat Conservation International and the US Forest Service are also involved in this effort and the effort here is the only one in Ontario.

He says they are doing this to raise awareness and save lives of bats and they hope to set a record by building 5,000 Bat Houses overall. He says Bats eat a lot of insects and that prevents the bugs from eating crops that farmers grow.
