Lots of hardware for local weightlifters on the weekend

Plenty of medals for local weightlifters at the 2016 North Bay Open Powerlifting Contest on Sunday.

The event was held at Canadore College’s Commerce Court gym and drew in 39 athletes.

Local lifters won five gold in the women’s competition along with a silver and two bronze.

On the men’s side, local lifters won three gold, two silver and one bronze.

In the female competition, the gold medal winners were:
Kim Crumpton of North Bay in 52 kilos
Jennifer McConnell of the North Bay Valhalla Club in 57 kilos
Wendy Gomes, Valhalla in 63 kilos
Chelsey Gaulin, Canadore Panthers in 72 kilos
Regan Jackson, Valhalla in 84 kilos

Meantime, Trena Restoule of the Canadore Panthers won the silver in the 57 kilo division. Alexandra Wallace of the Valhalla team took the bronze at 72 kilos, while Candace-Rose Joiner of the Panthers took bronze at 84 kilos.

Crumpton, McConnell and Gomes qualified for the Ontario Open and Masters Championship coming up November 12th in St. Catharines while Jackson qualified for the Ontario Juniors (under 23 years) in Ottawa on October 30.

On the male side, the local division winners were:
Adam Burke of the Canadore Panthers at 59 kilos
Aaron Tsang, North Bay, Unattached at 66 kilos
Tim Wilson  of the North Bay Valhalla team at +120 kilos

Meantime, three Canadore lifters also won medals. Dylan Greer won silver in the 72 kilo class, Jordan Franks the bronze at 93 kilos, and Liam Macdonald the silver in the 105 kilo division.

Jake Beaton of the North Bay Big Wheels Powerlifting team was the only competitor in the Para powerlifting event. He lifted in the 74 kilo class and succeeded with 85 kilos in the bench press.
