The North Bay Battalion picked up a big 4-3 win over the Erie Otters last night at Memorial Gardens.

It was the Troops first game with new head coach Ryan Oulahen behind the bench.

He says he’s proud of the effort he got from the team.

“Thrilled for the players, they’re the ones that have had the toughest week, to go through something like this.  Literally guys putting themselves on the line to block a shot, pay the price, to win a hockey game and that’s fun to see,” says Oulahen.

Joe Vrbetic made 30 saves in the Battalion net.

“His third period was his best period by far, and he made key saves at the right time.  Those are signs that now the team builds belief, ‘holy cow this can really happen, we’re still in it’ and sure enough away we go,” says Oulahen.

North Bay was down 3-2 going into the third before getting goals from Mitchell Russell and Simon Rose to take the lead and the win.

Brandon Coe and Luke Moncada scored earlier in the game.

The Battalion are back in action tonight, on the road to Mississauga.

Broadcast time is 6:50 pm on Country 600 CKAT.
