nicole peltierEducation, job creation, healthcare and the environment were some of the issues discussed on part three of Country 600 CKAT’s “Meet the Candidates” series this morning (Friday) with Green Party Candidate Nicole Peltier.

The conversation started on the Energy East Pipeline and Peltier says the Green Party doesn’t agree with transporting oil through a pipeline or by rail.

She says neither is the safe choice, one is just a cheaper expense.

“We need to look at that, what is the safest way to transport oil?”

In terms of social issues, Peltier says there needs to be more support services within the region, including safe injection sites.

As well, she says overall healthcare needs to be funded differently by the Federal Government.

She says the Green Party does not agree with have and have not provinces.

In terms of bringing jobs to the region, Peltier says the Green Party will focus on manufacturing jobs as a priority here.

“It’s one of the sectors that feeds indirect job growth as well.” She goes on to say, “If you’ve ever heard about cross-laminated timber, this is an innovative building technology and it’s something that we should be getting into right now.”

Peltier touched on the Aerospace sector and says they want to expand on what is being done and introduce green related initiatives that reduce the use of fuel.

As well, she says the youth need to be more of a priority.

“They’re some of the most incredible, intelligent people I have ever met, they are plugged into world issues.” She goes on to say, “They are not engaged in politics because their issues are not being brought up and when you’re disengaged you withdraw.”
