thNorth Bay is welcoming upwards of 40 optometrists from across the north for a three day conference this weekend.

Dr Gary Pearce says it’s mandatory that optometrists undertake continuing education to maintain their licenses with some specialists coming up from southern Ontario.

They’re holding advanced education sessions at this conference.

Dr Pearce points out optometrists can prescribe medications to treat eye diseases and there are new medications being developed all the time, so it’s really important to keep current.

He says they’re also raising awareness about the importance of students having their eyes checked on a regular basis.

Dr Pearce says studies show 80 per cent of learning is based on vision.

The 2015 Northeastern Optometry Conference is taking place at the Holiday Inn Express.
