blue green algaeThe Health Unit says a blue-green algae bloom has been detected in Lake Nipissing next to Charland Drive.

Since the water treatment plant draws its water from Trout Lake the municipal supply is not impacted.

The Health Unit advises residents in the area to avoid swimming, don’t allow pets or livestock to swim in the water or drink the water and don’t eat the liver, kidneys or other organs of fish caught in the water around the bloom.

Officials say the toxin may stay in the area for 3 weeks after the algae bloom is gone.
