veterans-day-parade There has never been a veterans parade in North Bay until today that is (Sunday).

The parade begins at 1pm on Memorial Drive, goes to Lee Park and when the parade is done there will be a display of vehicles followed by an open house at the West Ferris Legion from 3pm-9pm .

Chair Raymond Merrick says the display will include military, police, fire and EMS vehicles. He says they decided to do one this year because there are many veterans anniversaries including the 90th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion and the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

As well, he says World War Two veterans are receiving commemorative awards this year and many long time veterans aren’t getting any younger and they should be honored for their sacrifice.

Merrick says the veterans were recently in Europe to celebrate the liberation of Holland in World War Two. He says that event happens once every 5 years and many veterans may not be around to take part in that 5 years from now so he came up with the idea of a veterans parade.

Today is the start of Veterans Week.
