bearsThe North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority has closed the Laurentian Escarpment Conservation Area due to increasing contact between a bear and those in the area using the trails.

The authority says two cyclists were charged at Friday morning by the mother bear and she came within 4 feet of stopping.

Both the ministry and North Bay Police were contacted.

The incident happened near the hydro line at the northern part of the area and the conservation area will remain closed until Monday when the situation will be re-assessed.

The authority says signs will be posted at the trailhead and at other common access points.
