Four officials with the North Bay and District Humane Society were near Kenora on the weekend helping start the process of transferring 70 dogs to Southern Ontario.

Executive Director Daryl Vaillancourt says the dogs willl be adopted by people in Sarnia and Welland.

He says the dogs are in good shape considering there are so many of them, but winter is coming.

Vaillancourt says the further north you go the less adoption you see.

The dogs will be vaccinated and micro-chipped in North Bay and then sent down south to start the selection process, where they’ll be re-homed.

Vaillancourt says adoption rates are very high in Sarnia and Welland.

He says the further north you go the bigger the problem and the less likelihood of adoptions taking place.
