workplace-safety-north-large100 years.  That’s how long there have been health and safety initiatives in the forestry, pulp and paper industries in Ontario.  The occasion will be marked with a conference in Thunder Bay in September on the 24th and 25th.  The director of industrial for Workplace Safety North is Tom Weldon.  He says in 1915 there were between 40-50 injuries daily in the province and a century later  there are 57 loss time injuries in Ontario per year in the logging industry for example.

Still he says there is still work to do.

Weldon says there are several events planned for the conference including a session on Emergency Preparedness and an awards banquet on health and safety excellence. The key note speakers at the conference  include the CEO of Workplace Safety North and the Chief Prevention Officer of the Ministry of Labour.
