Zach Poirier, the North Bay Battalion forward was part of the Team Canada’s U18’s that recently won gold at the Ivan Hlinka tournament.

Poirier has represented his country twice now, at the World Under 17’s last year and now this tournament.

He was asked if he thinks he could follow Nick Paul’s footsteps and represent Canada at the World Junior tournament.

He says “I just have to have a couple of good years now under Stan, and see what I can do and hopefully I’ll get a call back in the future.”

Poirier says this one week tournament was all about making quick adjustments to your competition.

He says “In such a short term competition like that it’s really important to just come together as a team as quick as possible and I think we did a really good job of doing that.”

Poirier says the goal was to win a gold medal and they bought into Head Coach Stan Butler’s message and won the tournament.
