Former Near North District School Board Chairwoman Kathy Hewitt has died.

The Board notified the Country-600 newsroom of her passing earlier today.

Current Chair Dave Thompson says it is a shock.

Hewitt spent more than 30 years in education, including as a parent representative, board trustee and chairwoman. Thompson says there was a lot to learn from Hewitt.

Hewitt was 76-years-old.
