NatureScience North and the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce collaborated to create fun new way for kids to learn about nature.

The Northern Nature Trading experience is located at the North Bay Regional Tourist Information Centre. The experience is based on the “Nature Exchange” at Science North where people bring in items they found in nature and, based off it’s rarity and the knowledge the person has about the item, get awarded points.

Director of Education and Northern Programs at Science North Nicole Chiasson says, that you can save up the points to get the more expensive items.

She says some acceptable items include shells, rocks & polished stones, plant parts and fossils.

Chiasson says North Bay isn’t the only place in Ontario with the Northern Nature Trading experience; there are Red Lake and Kenora locations with 3 more locations to come.

Chiasson says when you earn points in one location; you can spend them in any of the other locations, including Science North.
