Sirens for life2Those that respond to emergencies and see for themselves the need for blood donation were giving blood  on Wednesday.

Canadian Blood Services has a competition among first responders to see which organization be it police, fire, EMS or paramedics  give the most blood.  Territory Manager Joanne Drake says it’s called Sirens For Life.

She says the goal of the North Bay event was to have the first responders donate a total of 50 units.

One such first responder is North Bay Police Sergeant Paul Trahan.

He says the need for blood is real.

Trahan says you never know when you will need blood so why not do your part to help.

North Bay Police Corporate Communications Coordinator Marie Lugli says police see the need for blood donation every day when investigating accidents.

The event on Wednesday was held at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park and there are 2 more clinics on Thursday from 11:30-2:30 and 4-6.

For same day appointments, call Canadian Blood Services at 1-888-236-6283.
