Small northern schools and the vast amount of physical distance between some of them was brought up at Queen’s Park today (Mon).

That was the focus of one of many questions to the government over the funding formula and impending school closures in rural and small town Ontario.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says northern schools are small because of where they’re located, pointing out they won’t fit in to the government’s “made in the south” mould.

He asked the Premier if the government would give northern schools the unique attention they deserve.

In her response, Premier Kathleen Wynne said they’ve increased annual funding for rural boards since 2012/13.

She also says they’ll work with school boards while looking to the boards and local communities to find solutions.
