Building permit numbers in the City of North Bay continue to outpace last year at this time.

In fact they’re up 67 percent.

Mayor Al McDonald says they’re encouraged by the upward trend, which continues to remain strong.

Construction value is at $36.5-million compared to $21.8-million last year.

McDonald says they set a goal of $55-million this year.

He also says changes to development charges are having an impact.

Development charges for homes less that 1,200 square feet were eliminated by council.

Meantime, charges for homes between 1,200 and 1,500 square feet were reduced by 30 percent while fees for homes over 1,500 square feet were frozen.

Of note, single family dwellings are up to 22 compared to 14 at this time in 2014.
