Economic Development and increasing FedNor funding.

Those issues were the focus of a couple of meetings for the Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors (NOLUM) in Ottawa today (Wednesday).

Mayor Al McDonald and the mayors of Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury met with the Northern Liberal Caucus then with Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Navdeep Bains.

McDonald says they’re working with them to create solutions needed to build Northern Ontario.

“I can’t go into details right at this moment, but I can tell you it was probably two of the most positive meetings I’ve had with senior levels of government in my six years as mayor,” McDonald said.

He says, “They were very supportive of FedNor, very supportive of increasing funding to FedNor and really interested in working together with us, as the Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors.”

The mayors of Timmins and Thunder Bay were unable to be at the meeting.
