fishingThe Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says a recent walleye blitz around the northeast found most anglers were obeying the rules.

From May 16th to June 7th Conservation Officers were checking anglers in nine northeastern communities, including North Bay.

They were paying special attention to licensing requirements, catch and possession limits and boater safety.

3,200 people were checked with 232 charges filed along with 256 warnings.

Offences included failing to carry a licence while fishing, catching or possessing too many fish and consuming liquor in a boat.

A total of 119 walleye were seized.

Officers also used the opportunity to educate anglers on invasive species and small vessel regulations.
