Algae bloom discovered in Callander Bay

(File photo) A bloom of toxin producing Blue Green Algae has been detected in Callander Bay.

The Health Unit says it’s near Sunbeam Beach.

They also say the municipal water supply is still drinkable because Callander’s water treatment plant is equipped to remove the toxins.

Officials are telling residents with private water systems to avoid using the water for drinking, cooking, bathing or swimming.

They also say boiling the water or using home water treatment devices will NOT destroy the toxins.
