Lakeside Fire

A lot of flames and smoke greeted city fire crews at a home on Lakeside Drive Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Chief of Operation and Training Greg Saunders says the accidental fire started when a spark caused vapors from furniture being refurnished to catch fire.

There’s no specific damage estimate, but he says there’s significant damage to the home.

Meantime, Saunders says the homeowner was there at the time and had a decision to make, either fight the fire himself or get his family out right away.

Saunders says the homeowner made absolutely the right decision by getting his baby from upstairs and getting out right way and calling the fire department to deal with the fire.
